International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The Center for Disability Studies and Services at the Islamic State University UIN Sunan Kalijaga celebrated International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a Disability Awareness March to rally for the cause, discussions on empowering persons with disabilities, and a forum on disability, inclusion and best practices. There was also a showing of an Indonesian documentary “Against Incapability” by Yaketunis. (For more information, or contact Marion Steff at marion.steff ( at ) mail.mcgill.ca)

UIN Sunan Kalijaga is the first university in Indonesia to provide support for students with disabilities and the only Indonesian organization to be mentioned on the United Nations webpage for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Marion Steff thanks family and friends for their donations to fund the Center for Disability Studies and Services (PSLD) activities for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This included a special issue of Difable News, PSLD’s monthly newsletter, with articles by the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, M. Amin Abdullah, H. Wibowo, a student member of PSLD, W. Arjanti, a lecturer at the UIN, B. Mogosa of the Equality for All Campaign in the African Region, W. Maina from the African Braille Centre, J.
