AWBC volunteers to give grad courses in computer science at UCC
Two volunteers will go to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Ghana this summer to provide courses for staff and advanced students. The courses will be related to knowledge extraction from databases and mathematical foundations and applications in computer science.
UCC’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology has embarked on an initiative to establish a graduate program and to develop its research capacity. Presently, no university in Ghana offers graduate degrees in Computer Science or Information Technology. Last year, AWBC sent Gena Hahn of the Université de Montréal and Dominique Sotteau, formerly of INRIA, to Cape Coast. They spent two weeks with Daniel Obuobi, former head of the department, discussing ways in which AWBC could assist them and provided UCC and AWBC with a blueprint for future cooperation.
